Alfred Edward Whitaker peacefully passed away June 26, 2020, at his residence in Great Falls, Montana.A graveside service will take place at Mount Olivet Cemetery on Monday, July 6, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. Al was born on June 19, 1936, in Helena, Montana, the son of George A. and Cora E. (Young) Whitaker. He served with the U.S. Marines in Korea during the Korean War. When he returned, he met and married the love of his life, Martha, and they spent most of their lives in the Great Falls area. Al retired from Benefis Hospital 22 years ago where he had been the Food Service Director for 30 years. Before his move to Great Falls, he was the Chef at Yellowstone Country Club located in Billings, MT.He also occasionally taught cooking school in Great Falls. He enjoyed auto racing and the outdoors. He especially enjoyed fishing with his children and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Martha; brothers, Dean and Henry; and sisters, Georgia, Geraldine, and Donna Bell.Surviving are his sister, Joyce Whitaker and her husband John Larsen of Minneapolis, MN; sister, Joan Benjamin of Helena; sons, Edward C. Whitaker and his wife, Kelly of Gresham, OR, and Richard A. Whitaker and wife, Cindy and their daughter, Laura J. Barille and her husband, Frank of Great Falls; grandchildren, Charles Whitaker, Eric Whitaker, Christina Whitaker, Tyler Whitaker, Benjamin Barille, Anthony Barille and Amy Barille; and 14 great-grandchildren.
