Alva Lawrence Stevens, Jr.

January 31, 1927 — May 5, 2022

Alva Lawrence Stevens, Jr. passed away peacefully on May 5, 2022. He was born January 31, 1927, to Alva Lawrence Stevens, Sr. and Jane Stevens in Moore, Montana. He was the second of 14 children. He grew up in Moore, where he met and married Helene Daniels. Alva served in the Navy during WWll. After discharge, he worked at the family garage in Moore where he honed his mechanical skills. He and his family moved to Great Falls, Montana where he worked for International Harvester until it was sold to Weaver Maxwell. While there, he trained in the repair of diesel pumps and injectors. He then started his own business: Steven’s Diesel Service. He was a master mechanic and successful businessman, known for his honesty. He didn’t hesitate to give his opinion on matters, and you knew where you stood with him. Alva enjoyed the natural world and was a great hunter. He liked to walk the land. Alva and Helene were married 50 years and spent many winters in Arizona where, after her passing, he continued to go. When his health prevented him from long travel he resided in Great Falls with a daughter until assisted living became necessary. At the time of his passing, Alva was being wonderfully taken care of at Azalea Place Assisted Living, and Benefis Peace Hospice. He is survived by his daughters; Pam Letterman (Lloyd) of Michigan, Vicki Munday of Great Falls, and Shelley Haffner of Great Falls; sisters, Catherine Hayworth, Diana Stevens and Linda Barthol; and brother, John Stevens. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Marie Vanek, Virginia Marvin, Evelyn Rel, Lois Stevens, and Marjorie Stevens; and brothers Jim, Bob, Ted, and Don.
