Anna Mae Gomke, 82, passed away from Cancer on July 10, 2024, at Park Place Health Care Center.
Anna Mae was born in Havre, MT to Anna Friesen and Theodore Madsen on September 8, 1941, and was one of 7 children. On October 28, 1959, she married Clarence “Blackie” Gomke and had two children, Rich and Debi.
In Havre, Anna Mae waitressed and worked as a camp Kiwanis cook with her mother before moving into retail sales. After Anna Mae and “Blackie” moved to Great Falls, she joined the Foster Grandparent Program and at Mountain View Elementary school. She worked and volunteered with teachers and students there for over 20 years. In 2017, Anna Mae won the Volunteer of the Year award for Foster Grandparents for Cascade County in addition to a slew of other awards, certificates, and Presidential commendations over her years of volunteering and teaching.
Anna Mae is survived by her children, Rich and Debi Olsen (Matt); sister, Judy; brothers, Frank and Bill; grandson, Aaron; and other family; as well as fellow teachers, Emily and Hayley; neighbors; friends; and hundreds of students now grown.
There will be a memorial service for Anna on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church, 1009 8th Avenue SW, Great Falls MT. Please bring any photos or remembrance to share with everyone.
