Arthur Charles "Charley Becker

July 24, 2015 — July 28, 2015

Charley Becker was 69 years old when he passed away from Lymphoma. The vigil service will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Cyril Catholic Church in Geyser. The funeral liturgy will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Stanford. Charley was born on September 16, 1945 in Great Falls. He went to school from 1st to 5th grade in Power and then he and his mother moved to the J.B. Long Ranch southwest of Belt. He played football, basketball, and track in high school in Belt. When he was a senior, Belt won the Northern Division football title. He graduated from Belt Valley High School in 1963 and went to Montana State University in Bozeman for agriculture business. His junior year he transferred to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and graduated in AgBusiness while there. He did chores at a horse training facility run by Marvin “Monty” Roberts. He roomed with Walt Johnson, Calvin Bohleen, and Gary Dyer. While living in San Luis he started team roping and roped until he was 65. Walt Johnson was his partner in the early years and before he retired, he was roping with Layton Perry and Arnie Smith. He made a lot of great friends and had a lot of good partners in 45 years. On September 15, 1967 he married Catherine Johnson from Raynesford. In the spring of 1970, Charley, Cathy, and Heather moved north of Geyser to the Arnold Smith Ranch. Holly, Jill, and Powell were born there and the family still ranches there. Charley was a member of the Geyser School Board for 12 years, a 4-H leader, a J.B. Stockgrower member, and a member and president of the Central Montana Team Roping Association. He was a member of St. Cyril Catholic Church and president of the Parish Council for several years. He was a lay leader of prayer for the last 20 years. He really enjoyed watching his own children grow up and now his grandchildren have been great entertainment. He especially enjoyed watching Kash play basketball. Charley is survived by his wife of 47 years, Cathy Becker; children Heather (Layton) Perry, Holly (Scott) Gliko, Jill (Cody) Gliko, and Powell (Connie) Becker; nine grandchildren, Kash Perry, Tanner and Hailey Gliko, Abby and Raily Gliko, and Ace, Axel, Blaze, and Briella Becker; and sister Eleanor Bohm. He was preceded in death by his father Art Becker; mother Emma Herman Becker; brother, Harry; and sister Anna Mae Asmus Bronec. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Cyril Catholic Church or St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
