Barbara (Basiewicz) Aleksinski, 88, of Great Falls, a retired caregiver, passed away Monday, February 18, 2013 from natural causes at a local care facility. A memorial service will be held Friday, February 22, 2013 at 2:00 pm at O’Connor Memorial Chapel. Cremation has taken place under the direction of O’Connor Funeral Home. Barbara was born on May 7, 1924 in Warsaw, Poland. She grew up and attended schools there, receiving a nursing degree. She worked as a Red Cross nurse, fought in the underground, and was subjected to a prisoner of war camp in Germany during World War II. Barbara married Frank Aleksinski in 1945, and they moved to Great Falls in 1949. She was a member of St. Ann’s Cathedral. She loved to read and help people. She loved music and dancing the polka. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Christine Aleksinski of Great Falls; son Robert Aleksinski of Grayland, WA; brother Marian Basiewicz of Warsaw, Poland; and grandchildren Bobby Aleksinski of Portland, OR and Ginger Aleksinski of Delavan, WI. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Aleksinski, in 1979; son Mark Aleksinski in 2005; adopted grandson Robert Arnold; and her children’s god parents, Bob and Ann Weldele.
