Bette Scott

Bette Jane Scott, 85, of Great Falls, beloved wife and mother left this life peacefully and entered paradise on April 14, 2014 surrounded by her family and faithful dogs. “Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”Psalm 23-6 A vigil will be held Friday April 25, 2014 at 7:00 pm at O’Connor Memorial Chapel 2425 8th Ave North. Funeral liturgy will be celebrated Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 10 am at Corpus Christi Catholic Church 410 22nd Ave NE with inurnment to follow at Highland Cemetery. Bette was born on March 23, 1929 to Sam and Elizabeth Bright in Belt, Montana. Her grandparents came to Montana by steamboat and wagon train from Tennessee and Missouri and homesteaded in the “Shonkin Sag” of the Highwood Mountains east of Great Falls. Her father Sam worked cattle in the area and was known to have rode with Charlie Russell in the Judith Basin Country. Grandpa told stories of Charlie sketching pictures while talking with the cowboys around the campfire. Bette attended grade school and her first two years of high school in Belt. The family then moved to Dutton where she finished high school graduating as valedictorian. She obtained a certificate in elementary education from the College of Great Falls and went on to teach a short time at the Canyon Creek country school north of Helena. Bette worked for Northern School Supply, Mountain Bell Telephone, and in her middle years as a sales rep for Home Interiors. She won top sales for her district one year and was awarded a trip to Dallas Texas along with a mink coat. Bette told many stories of growing up on the family ranch near Tiger Butte and the love she had for her horse “Pussy Foot” and her dog “Tippy.” She told of riding several miles to school with Tippy trailing behind and the many adventures they shared. Bette’s love for dogs lasted a lifetime as she had one or more around the house up to her last days. Bette married John Scott on August 4, 1951 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Parrish in Great Falls. Their undying love for one another stood the test of time of 63 years. They built their home on the good old “west side” where they lovingly raised four children. She was a loving and caring mother, a dedicated wife and often went without so others didn’t have to. Bette was a strong, private person, and kept to herself the illnesses she bore most of her life. Mom loved her home and flowers and kept them in a beautiful and wholesome way. She had a deep faith in our Lord Jesus Christ that she shared with family. Mom will be thought of by those that knew her as a wonderful lady and by her family and friends she will be forever missed. Bette leaves behind her four children, Greg (Heather) Scott of Great Falls, Jeff (Pam) Scott of Columbus, Cathy (Dan) Dwyer of Great Falls, and Becky Scott of Great Falls; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren Jesse (Sara) Scott their daughter Noa of Bozeman, Jennifer (Andy) Long their daughter Morgan and sons Evan and Cameron of Minneapolis, Garrett (Erica) Scott of Billings, Drew Scott of Livingston, Sarah (Scott) Anderson their son Rowan of Great Falls, Sean Scott and his daughter Henzley of Great Falls, Josh (Samantha Stubbs) Dwyer and their daughters Taylor and McKenzie of Great Falls, and Jake Dwyer of Great Falls. Bette was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents Sam and Elizabeth Bright; one brother; four sisters; numerous aunts, uncles; and relatives. Bette’s family will forever be thankful to the wonderful doctors, especially Dr. Brice Addison, and the staff at Great Falls Benefis Hospital, Peace Hospice of Great Falls and all who enriched her life.
