Charles Roy Cummings, affectionately known as "Papa Chuck," passed away on February 5 at the age of 94. Chuck was born in Great Falls on June 27, 1930, to George Marshall and Ruth (Donner) Cummings.
Chuck served in the United States Marine Corps from 1948 to 1952. After serving our country, he returned to Great Falls where he married his wife, Phyllis Catherine (Larson). Together they had 2 boys, Grant Charles and Guy Paul. He owned and operated the Lions Park Barber Shop, where he participated in countless shenanigans and met lifelong friends. Chuck enjoyed golfing, fishing, upland bird hunting, cooking, baking, and many games including 6-5-4. As a jack-of-all-trades, he could fix anything. He dedicated a significant part of each spring and summer to cultivating and tending his large garden. He loved to share fresh corn, “spuds,” and other garden goodies with his friends, family, and neighbors.
He is survived by son, Grant Cummings (Judy); brother, Donald Cummings (Arlene); brother-in-law, Fred Volk; 7 grandchildren – Sarah Cummings, Christopher Cummings (Nicole), Emily Newsted (Matt), Laura Cummings, Kerri Cummings, Gloria Tedford (Aaron), and Kasey Cummings; 10 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and treasured friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruth Cummings; his wife, Phyllis Catherine; son, Guy Paul; sisters, Frances Nada Bornhoft and Katherine Darlene Volk; and brother-in-law, Arlie Bornhoft.
Plant a garden in honor of Papa Chuck, or think of him when you are near one.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
