Curtiss Dean Phelps, 74, of Great Falls, passed away on July 22, 2015 after suffering a severe heart attack. Private family services will be held at a later date. O’Connor Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Curt was born to Henry and Violet (Stoaser) Phelps on June 12, 1941 in St. John, North Dakota. He moved to Havre at the age of 15 with his parents. He met his future wife, Marlene Becker in Havre in 1958. They married July 27, 1959. This year, they would have celebrated 56 years of marriage. Together they raised four children. In the early years of their lives, Curt was a farmer, rancher, mechanic, and raised and trained horses. In 1987, they moved to Great Falls where he and his sons ran Phelps Hay Ranch. He sold hay all over the world. He was a hard worker and loved what he did. He is survived by his wife, Marlene; sons James (Tammy) Phelps and Scott (Christine) Phelps; daughters Brenda Mitchell and Michelle (David) Vance; sisters Verla Manning of Rolla, ND and Marion Coder of Grand Junction, CO; nine grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Curt was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Harold and Thomas.
