Dale E. Spitzer, 78, a retired contracting officer for Malmstrom AFB, died Thursday, July 8, 2021, at Benefis Peace Hospice of pancreatic cancer. Dale was born in Wolf Point, MT to Rudolph and Annie (Naasz) Spitzer. They preceded him in death. He attended school in Wolf Point and in about 1965, he moved to California and worked as a produce manager in the grocery store business. He came back to Montana in 1972, to the old Glasgow AFB going to work for Safeguard, a military contractor. Safeguard began closing in 1973, and Dale was transferred to Malmstrom AFB going to work in Base Supply. He later went to the Contracting Squadron and retired from there in 2003. Dale married Cheryl Kemmis in September 1973, and they made their home in Great Falls ever since. If you knew Dale, you knew he loved fishing! Fort Peck Lake was always a special place to him, but he loved his fishing trips to Cabo San Lucas and Prince Edward Island too. He also was a pretty good carpenter having remodeled two of their homes. Retirement gave him time to pursue gardening and perfecting his jerky and fish smoking recipes. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; sister, Shirley McCrea; and an extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Cremation has taken place and per his wishes, no services will be held.
