David Stanley Mikulecky went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, September 21, 2018, after living a life serving others.A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, October 1st at Bethel Lutheran Church, Great Falls, MT. David was born on September 23, 1941, in Lone Pine, CA.When he was four, his family moved back to Detroit Lakes, MN where he graduated from high school. In 1967, he graduated from Moorhead State College summa cum laude with a BS Degree in Secondary Education.Later he obtained Master Degrees in Industrial Technology and Vocational Education. He married Marilys “Mim” Morberg in 1963. Their daughter Andrea was born in 1967, at which time they moved to Great Falls, MT where David began a 34 year teaching career with the Great Falls Public Schools.Their son Stephen arrived in 1970, completing their family. David had a strong faith in his Lord and was passionate about working with youth and giving back to the community. He was active in his church serving on various boards, teaching confirmation, even becoming a Lay Pastoral Associate in his retirement years. He was a lifelong Boy Scout, becoming an Eagle Scout in 1956. As an adult he served as Scoutmaster until his son became an Eagle Scout in 1988. He then became active at the District level, serving on numerous committees and receiving many honors and awards.In 1993, he received the rare Silver Beaver award which is given to adult scouters who have provided distinguished service to young people.One of his greatest joys was seeing all three of his grandsons involved in scouting, with the oldest becoming a 3rd generation Eagle Scout in 2017. David had a love for family, life and learning, putting his heart and soul into what was important to him.He loved the outdoors in every season and filled many hours of his life with camping, backpacking, fishing, hunting, cross-country skiing, canoeing, and hiking. Some of his happiest times were spent with family and friends around a campfire. David also enjoyed photography, fly-tying and recording family history. He was a great father and husband and will be missed by his family, his many friends and all those whose lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Frances Mikulecky. He is survived by Mim, his wife of 55 years; daughter Andrea Mikulecky of Great Falls, MT; sonStephen (Melinda) Mikulecky of Everett, WA; grandsonsLogan, Hayden and Tyson Mikulecky of Everett, WA; sistersMary Lou (Tom) Kusserow of Salt Lake City, UT and Carol “Mickey” (Charlie) Lego of North Olmsted, OH. Memorials may be given to Boy Scouts of America or Bethel Lutheran Church.
