Dewane Myre, 81, of Great Falls, lost a long hard battle with Alzheimer’s on Friday, November 4, 2016. Dewane was born on January 26, 1935 to Peder and Delvina (Broughten) Myre, he was the 8th child of 13. He attended Great Falls public schools. He began work at the Great Northern Railroad as a Carman. In 1957, he left for the Army where he served 6 months and then served an additional 9 years in the Army Reserves. In 1958, he married his one and only, Marilyn Shiell at the West Side United Methodist Church. Dewane’s carpentry career began at the Great Falls Smelter, working there for 10 years. He then went on his own, working for various union construction companies and retiring from All Steel Building Company in 1998 at the age of 63. Retirement was good for Dewane and Marilyn. They purchased a motorhome and took to the highways traveling around the United States. Additional adventures included visiting Alaska, Hawaii and Scotland. They enjoyed many years of camping memories with family and friends at numerous Montana lakes. Dewane’s carpentry talent was also his hobby. He loved to build, remodel and was always full of ideas. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t make and was called upon for many projects even after retirement (especially from his children). He was a wonderful husband, awesome dad and papa and loved by all. He is cherished and greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 58 years; son Kevin (Anne) of Moses Lake, WA; daughter Diane (Todd) Timboe of Great Falls, MT; grandchildren Brooke Myre and Jacob Myre; sisters Margie Hill, Shirley Scott, Darlene Myre, Florence George and Noreen Moore; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dewane was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Floyd, Emil, Jim, and John; his sisters, Alice, Edith and Lucille. A celebration of Dewane’s life will be held Friday, November 18, 2016 at the Westside United Methodist Church, 726 Central Avenue West, at 11:00 a.m. O’Connor Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dewane’s name can be given to Peace Hospice, 1101 26th St. S , or to the donor’s choice.
