Diane Roena Shaw

November 6, 1941 — November 16, 2023

It is with humble acceptance of God’s will that we share the passing of our mother, grandmother, and friend. Diane Roena Shaw went home to be with the Lord on November 16, 2023.

Diane was born in Choteau, Montana to John and Jannett Groot and raised by John and Margaret Groot also of Choteau. She attended elementary and high school in Choteau before marrying the love of her life. She married Doug Shaw of Fairfield on March 6, 1959. The newlyweds first lived in Gallatin Gateway where their first son, John Martin was born. The couple made the move to Belt where their second son, Lincoln James was born along with welcoming a daughter, Darcy Lynne. Doug and Diane moved a final time back to Fairfield where the couple would live out the rest of their days. Doug and Diane enjoyed 56 years of marriage.

She loved the Lord, and the Word of God was readily available to share at any opportunity the Lord placed in her heart. She had an open arm and door policy that welcomed family, friends, and strangers alike making her the most hospitable lady we have ever known. Everyone who came into contact with Diane felt special and loved.

Diane’s purpose was serving her family and at this she excelled. She was an amazing cook, talented seamstress, and very fond of family photography. She could often be found busy in the kitchen baking bread, pies, and preparing family dinners. Diane’s family and guests were spoiled with her exceptional cooking skills and enjoyed roast beef dinners, pancakes with homemade syrup, soup, grilled sandwiches, as well as many cookies and sweets. She put her seamstress skills to use and made many shirts, hats, and quilts. Diane loved bowling and she and Doug could often be found at the bowling alley on league nights.

She loved her husband, Doug with all of her heart and soul. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the light of her life and she took much pleasure in watching them grow up as she spoiled them with her love and care.

Diane was preceded in death by her husband, Doug Shaw; dad, John Groot; mother, Jan Henderson; stepmother, Margaret Groot; and sister, Gloria Huidekoper. She is survived by her sisters, Linda Matlock of Lewiston, Idaho, Renee Groot Spinder of Choteau, and Joan Riphenburg of Cascade; sons, John (Debbie) Shaw of Maple Valley, Washington and Lincoln Shaw of San Angelo, Texas; daughter, Darcy (Michael) May of Fairfield; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and countless nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by all.

The family will be having a celebration of life at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Faith Bible Church in Fairfield, 451 7th St N. Family burial will be at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Fairfield.
