Elaine Fluegel Knox

July 24, 1928 — February 5, 2022

Elaine Knox peacefully moved on from this world February 5, 2022, to dance with her husband, Duane, while their son, Steven, looks on. Elaine was born July 24, 1928, in Grenora, ND and moved with the family to Great Falls, Montana. She graduated from Great Falls High School in 1946, and went on to earn her teaching certificate from Colorado State College of Education in Greeley, CO. She began her teaching career working with students in rural Montana and later took a job teaching in the Great Falls Public School system. She met Duane Knox, her husband of 69 years while teaching in rural Montana. They courted while Duane was in the service and married on August 27, 1950. Elaine and Duane farmed on the Fairfield Bench with Duane’s father Gilbert. They then moved to the Tiger Butte area where they farmed for several decades. Mom was a busy farm wife and mother to four children. Elaine loved to dance and ice skate. She enjoyed crafts such as crocheting, painting, ceramics, and sewing. She often pushed wheelchairs and played piano at a local nursing home. She created an informal cottage industry by crocheting lap robes and donating them to local assisted living and nursing facilities. She also enjoyed being a Sunday School teacher, 4-H leader, and a member of a Home Demonstration club. She was a member of the BPOE Elks Lodge with her husband Duane. Elaine and Duane loved to spend time at their cabin on Flathead Lake where friends and family were always welcome. Elaine was preceded in death by her mother and father, William J. and Eunice Fluegel; husband, Duane; son, Steven; and sisters, Bernice Christensen and Lorraine Burt. She is survived by her brother, William (Alice) Fluegel; daughters, Robin (Michael) Morgan, Laurie (Russ Kerkes) Knox, and Becky (Michael) Knox-Marshall; grandsons, Eric (Kelly) Morgan and Sage Kerkes; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at The Grandview Reflections for the loving care of our mother, and especially, Marcell and Jocelyn. We would also like to thank the caring staff at Peace Hospice for watching over our mother during her final days. A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 11, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Highland Cemetery, 2010 33rd Ave. South, Great Falls, MT. The service will be officiated by Pastor Ken Waag of Faith Lutheran Church. The family of Elaine Knox would appreciate donations being sent to the Alzheimer Association and Peace Hospice.
