Eleanor "Joan" Walter

Eleanor “Joan” (Lott) Walter, 82, of Great Falls, passed away Monday, June 5, 2017 at Peace Hospice. Private services are being planned. Cremation is in the care of O’Connor Funeral Home. Joan was born September 4, 1934 in Sayre, PA and graduated from Sayre High School in 1952. Joan enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and attended basic training at Lackland AFB in Texas. After basic training, Joan attended tech school in Cheyenne, WY, then permanent party at Scott Field, IL where she met and married Lawrence Walter. They were married for 35 years until his death in 1988. Following the military, Joan worked for Fred Meyer and Austin Fashions in Kalispell, and Herbergers in Great Falls for 16 years. She also worked with Great Falls Public Schools for 8 years. Joan enjoyed spending time with family and friends, bowling, working in her lawn and flowers, and she loved the Green Bay Packers. Joan is survived by her sister Monica Sagen of CA; daughter Donna (Larry) Wiprud of VA; son Frank (Suzanne) Walter of Great Falls; granddaughters Katie Walter and Kim DeGraw; grandsons Lance and Christopher Wiprud; six step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Joan was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Walter; son Larry Walter (2012); sisters Pat and Clara; and brother Raymond. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be donated to Peace Hospice, PO Box 7008, Great Falls MT 59406-7008.
