Ervin was born Ray, Colorado on February 26, 1937.He attended schools in the area and later married Mary Gentry.They had four children together, Roger, Martin, James and Ann.They were later divorced.He worked as a carpenter. He moved to Colorado Springs and then had a major illness but after his health improved he moved to Fort Benton and again began in the construction field.He retired in 2003. Ervin and Cheryl Diacon were married Jan 1, 2000 and made their home in Fort Benton. With his wife Cheryl they enjoyed watching Shepherd’s Chapel on television for the past 16 years. Ervin is survived by his wife Cheryl, three sons, Roger (Miriam) Gardner of Grapevine, Texas, Martin Gardner, Aurora, Colorado, and James Gardner of Great Falls.He had eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren, a brother Steven Gardner Ray, Colorado and one sister. He was preceded in death by several brothers and a sister.
