On May 2, 2019 our beloved father, Papa, Peepa and most cherished friend, Fred William Thiel passed away, peacefully in his sleep, leaving this world to find himself in the company of his treasured wife, Dorothy Thiel. Freddy was born on December 23rd to Walter and Hilda Thiel in Brooklyn New York. Fred, a fiercely loyal individual joined the army in 1947 and was stationed in Germany just after World War II where he met the love of his life, Dorothy, in Wiesbaden. He and Dorothy were married in 1953 in Great Falls Montana. Fred was most proud of his work with the Red Cross from which he retired.Fred was an active member in the Great Falls community serving on many boards throughout the city, Crime Stoppers and Optimists’ Club being among his favorites. With Dottie by his side, they made over 20 trips exploring Europe and celebrated their 50th anniversary in Wiesbaden and Vienna.Always planning their next adventure Fred and Dot were never ones to let the grass grow beneath their feet. As active members of the Catholic community they were heavily involved with Search, a retreat program for high school youth, and later on, Cursillo, a related retreat for adults. Fred is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Thiel and His daughter Adrianna Thiel Standiford. He leaves behind his children, Fred (Rocky) and his wife Mary Thiel, Lisa Thiel Lawton and her husband, Bob, Krystina and her husband Dave Smalley, His son in-law Allan Standiford; his grandchildren in order of appearance, Rita Peterson, Andy Thiel, Bobby Lawton, Angela Maritn, Rockee Jones, Christoph Lawton, Tamara Thiel Prizant, Elisabeth Clark, Miranda Zampich, and Fredryck Hale, numerous great grandchildren along with his dearest caregiver and friend Shelley Goetzinger Ragland. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 6th at 11:00 a. m. at Holy Spirit with a reception to follow at the family home, 3119 2nd Avenue North. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested tothe Great Falls High Food Pantry at 1900 2nd Avenue South 59405.
