Genevieve Quilter

Genevieve Obstarczyk Quilter, 102, of Great Falls passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 of natural causes. Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 18, 2014 at 10 am at Mount Olivet Cemetery. O’Connor Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Genevieve was born in Great Falls on December 2, 1911 to Andrew and Anna Obstarczyk. She attended Great Falls schools. Genevieve was married to Valentine Gerich in 1928, they divorced in 1939. Later she married Jack Quilter in 1940, he passed away in 1973. Genevieve had many careers during her lifetime. She was the merchandise manager for the Army Exchange Service; a biscuit wrapper at Eddy’s Bakery, an Operator of the Riverside Garden Dance Hall, and finally owned her own business “Gen’s Beauty Shop” as a beautician in Lincoln, MT. After retiring she spent many winters in Yuma, AZ, finally residing at the Rainbow in Great Falls. Genevieve was involved in the Rainbow Garden Club, VFW Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters of Americas, and Holy Spirit Parish. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, dancing, and card games. Genevieve had a kind heart and possessed a great love for her family. Genevieve is survived by her daughter-in-law, Ria Quilter of California; sister Phyllis Hemstad; niece Cathy Kuntz; and nephew Bob Mehlhoff of Great Falls; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren in Califonia She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Richard Quilter; brothers Joseph, John, Louis, and Frank Obstarczyk; sisters Mary Mehlhoff, Helen Tognetti, and Irene Anderson. Memorials are suggested to the Montana Veterans Memorial, P.O. Box 3524, Great Falls, MT, 59406-3524.
