George Samuel Roland

George Samuel Roland, 89, Belt, MT, passed away May 23, 2017, at a Great Falls care facility. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church with military honors and burial at Pleasant View Cemetery in Belt. George Roland was born March 13, 1928, at Northfield, NJ, the son of Karl and Henrietta Roland.At the age of 16, George, with his parents’ permission, enlisted in the Merchant Marines in 1944 and served until 1946.George later joined the Army in 1950 and received an honorable discharge in 1951.He was drawn to the great outdoors and came to Montana.George worked as a logger and later retired living in Belt.He enjoyed golfing. He is survived by his daughter Natalie Roland of California; sister Marie Schmincke; sister-in-law Irene Roland; nine nieces; three nephews; and many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers Karl and John.
