Helen F. (Huron) Yanuszka

April 7, 1923 — October 13, 2018

Helen F. (Huron) Yanuszka, of Great Falls MT, born on April 7, 1923, died at Peace Hospice on October 13, 2018. At her request a private service is planned. O’Connor Funeral Home is handling cremation and other arrangements. Helen’s parents Stella (Tarasewicz) and Joseph Huron and two brothers, Francis and Anthony Huron were a close family and have all predeceased her. In 1944, she married Stephen Yanuszka in their native New York City, and he passed in 1991. They had one child, a son, Stephen A. Yanuszka (his wife Barbara), of Great Falls. After graduating from Hunter College in 1943, where she majored in Chemistry, with a minor in Biology, she was employed on the Manhattan Project of the Atomic Energy Commission during World War II. After the war she held positions with Union Carbide, Linde Corporation and a staff position in the office of the Chief of the Chemotherapy Division at the Sloan Kettering Institute for Cancer Research. After moving to Great Falls in 1984, she was employed by the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings, holding positions that culminated with being hired as executive secretary to the Roman Catholic Bishop. Montana was her second home for parts of four decades until her death. She much appreciated and admired her daughter-in-law, Barbara and Barbara’s family, the Salinas’s and Hunts, who welcomed her here. Helen asked that it be noted that there were many other kind, good people who touched her life and made her life in Montana very special. In her later years, she held in high esteem many friendships with Brookdale Retirement residents, their family members and the good staff and management of the facility, where she lived comfortably and was cared for, for a good number of years. Dr. Mel Margaris and staff were compassionate medical care professionals for her. Survivors include her son Steve and wife Barb, and many nieces and nephews across the country. Helen requested all kindness and thoughts be expressed through O’Connor Funeral Home and indicated Peace Hospice of Montana, that gave her great peace, special kindnesses and attention in her final days, be granted any memorials in lieu of flowers.
