Irene “Big I” Brewer, went home to reunite with her family and friends in Heaven on June 25, 2018. She was 83 years old. No Service is planned, at her request. Irene was born May 5, 1935 in Circle, Montana to Gottlieb and Katherine Bertsch. The family moved to Fairfield where Irene lived until she met her husband, Fate, “Pete” Brewer. They married in June of 1955. They made their home in Great Falls and welcomed their son, Greg, in 1957. Irene played softball for many years and was a City champion pool player. She was a regular at The Sailboat where she loved BINGO and KENO, and just hanging out with her husband and friends. She enjoyed doing arts and crafts. For years, she and her sister made a vast array of Christmas cookies for family and friends. Her love, compassion and dedication for animals was to be admired. Irene is survived by her son, Greg (Dedra) Brewer; grandchildren Adam (Heather) Brewer, Alex (Becki) Brewer, Aidan Brewer, Ashly (Mark) Versoza; great-grandchildren Darian, Brayden and Rylan; brother-in-law Joseph “Sam” Williamson, and numerous nieces and nephews. Irene had a very special place in her heart for her many friends, especially Cathy Hjelt and Steve Lesiak. She will be remembered for her independence, her big heart, her kind soul, and her unique sense of humor. She will be greatly missed. “Animal lovers are a special breed of humans; generous of spirit, full of empathy, perhaps a little prone to sentimentality and with hearts as big as a cloudless sky.” – John Grogan Memorials are suggested to Great Falls Animal Shelter, 1010 25th Ave NE, Great Falls, MT 59404.
