James Lee Duncan, 73, of Great Falls passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2014. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Olive Christian Fellowship with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery. O’Connor Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. James was born on December 31, 1940 to Florence E. Davis and Willie Gene Duncan in Houston, Texas. He had an older brother, John Henry “Duncan” Davis and younger brother Eugene Duncan, a younger brother, Floyd Ray Duncan was stillborn. James attended Blackshear Elementary School, and Jack Yates Junior and High School. As a young boy he worked at a neighborhood grocer, and went from delivering groceries, to bagging, to cashiering, and was trained as a meat cutter. He worked and managed a Gulf service station; maintenance at the University of Houston; in construction he drove cement trucks; owned and operated Cafés and Bar-B-Q restaurants in Houston as well. James moved to Great Falls in October 1997 to live with his older brother. He worked at Bruce Watkins Brewery; Montgomery Wards as a maintenance man; and housekeeping at Benefis Hospital for several years until he was disabled. He was baptized at age 12, while a member with Mount Olive Christian Fellowship, James wrote a song titled, “I Want to Be Washed in the Blood of Jesus.” He had two sons, Little James Duncan and Michael Carter. His first wife was Mary Ann, he then married and divorced from Eva Duncan. He has a grandson Aaron Carter and a granddaughter Jada Duncan from James and Kim Duncan. James was surely a loving father, uncle, grandfather, brother and friend to many. James was not active in church due to his health, but he knew the Lord and was often singing gospel songs and praying to the Lord Jesus in his last days. He encountered two bouts with cancer, but his body was weakened and he was always tired, “But the Lord God gave him rest for he alone knows how much we can bear.” James had two favorite cousins, Clara and Joyce, we all grew up together. We have many other cousins, nieces and nephews in Houston. Many have gone on to be with the Lord, including Mary Louise, Ida Mae, and Martha Lee. “Thank God, he is now safe in the arms of Jesus”.
