Jane Marie Buckman Husted, 91, passed away on January 8, 2014, at Hospice House in Great Falls. Services will be held this spring in West Liberty, IA. Jane was born February 26, 1922, to Ray and Elizabeth Buckman in West Liberty, IA. She graduated from the School of Nursing at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, IA in 1943. After graduation, Jane enlisted in the Army Nurse Corp. and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant stationed in the U.S. and later at the 42nd Hospital in Tokyo, Japan, for 8 months. After finishing her tour of duty, Jane was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant. Jane worked as a surgical post-op nurse in Kansas, California, and Arizona, before returning to Iowa where she finished her career as a geriatric nurse with the Veterans Administration. In all, she served for thirty-five years in the nursing profession before her retirement. After she retired, Jane relocated to Billings and worked part-time in home health care. Jane also volunteered at St. Vincent Hospital, working over 2000 hours. Jane loved the nursing profession, as well as doing what she could to honor veterans. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 36 years and President of the Billings Auxiliary Unit 4 in 1984. She is survived by her son, Paul C. Husted of Great Falls; daughter-in-law, Lori Husted Great Falls; sister, Marjorie Johnson of Fargo, ND; and her grandchildren, Erin Husted, Anna Husted, and Jordan Husted.
