John Joseph Buckley

John J. ‘Jack’ Buckley, 95, of Great Falls made his transition from this life on September 3, 2017. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon, September 14, 2017, at the Cathedral in Helena, Montana, followed by a Ceremonial Veterans Salute at 2pm at the Ft. Harrison Veterans Cemetery. Jack was born in Anaconda, Montana June 20, 1922.He was the second of two boys of Martin and Margaret Buckley.He attended local schools before joining the Army Air Corps to serve in WW II. He met and married Alice Mayer and then began his lifetime career with Mountain Bell.His career with the phone company took him to several cities in Montana, followed by a nine year period in Denver, Colorado. He returned to Montana in 1970 and retired as Assistant Vice President in 1985 after 38 years of service. Following his retirement, he stayed active with the Telephone Pioneers, while enjoying his love of gardening, athletic sports, hunting, fishing and numerous community projects. Following the death of his wife of 65 years, he decided to move in with family in Great Falls where he has resided for the past five years. He is survived by children John “Jay” Buckley, Jr. (Kathy), Leslie Buckley, Lynne Ferguson and Jaime Broda; grandchildren Trevor J. Miller, MD (Wyatt Jaffe, MD), Karma Gooch, Nicole Brock (Travis), Sean Ferguson, and David Tirado (Lynsey); great-grandchildren, Brady, Harley, Harper, Asher, Ronen, Zack, Hailey, Jacob, Maddie, and Carson; and of course his faithful dog and companion, Cimmy. He is preceded in death by his wife Alice and a brother Jim. In lieu of flowers, friends may honor Jack’s life with gifts to Old Glory Landmark, PO Box 2, Helena, Mt. 59624.
