John A. Cadigan

John Cadigan, 74, of Fairfield, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2017 in a Great Falls Hospital. A private family service will be held. Cremation is in the care of O’Connor Funeral Home. One of the world’s treasures has made his final journey. John A. Cadigan, born July 7, 1942, lived a life of honor and service to his country and his fellow man. Serving in the Navy from 1960 to 1966, John achieved the rank of E-4 IC3 and was a part of the naval crew on the USS Zellers (DD777) that defended our national security during the Cuban Blockade that protected our country in the time of President Kennedy. Studying telecommunications while in the Navy, John was able to take his education after 6 years of service to our country and move into a lifelong career working in the telecommunications industry. After retiring from Pacific Bell in 1987 John began a new journey of entrepreneurialism that spanned the next 25 years. Johns love for his community and civic duties in both California and Montana extended into the Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, and City Council. He also served as Mayor in Hercules California and was given a lifetime membership to the Fairfield Lions Club. In 1986 John met and married the love of his life, Toni. They married and shared the next 30 years living a full life that included a move to Montana in retirement, where they together built a picture perfect life at the Rockin’ JT Ranch, living on the high prairie in Fairfield, MT. They enjoyed gardening, raising horses and of course their faithful canine companions, Spud, JT and Paisley. John is predeceased by his parents Arthur Ira Cadigan and Edith Grace MacMinn. He leaves behind his sister Diane Donnelly; his beloved wife Toni Cadigan; his children Sean Cadigan (Monica), Colleen Vastola (Frank), and Michelle Cadigan (Don Boyd); his grandchildren Christopher, Micheal, Bryce, Nathan, Nicole and Justine; his great grandchildren Ella, Austin and Lyla; his stepchildren, Michael Bassett (Patricia), Deborah Nelson (Ben Learned), and Jason Bassett (Jason Ford); his step grandson Jonathan Knight; his nephews Michael and Steven; his nieces Kim and Teri; and grandnieces Michaela, Jacquee and Jade; as well as many extended family, friends and loved ones. John will be missed. His sense of humor, his willingness to help his community, his honor, pride and love for life have been a constant source of strength for his entire family. John’s wish is that you remember him in this way… as a kind soul with a belief in giving back and that he genuinely loved everyone. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fairfield Lion's Club.
