John "Jack" George Fatz

John “Jack” G. Fatz oldest beloved son, of the late John and Violet Fatz, after a three-year struggle with cancer, went home to be with his Lord on February 12. He passed away with loving family by his side. Jack grew up learning to work hard and consequently became, at the age of 14, the youngest Journeyman butcher in the Butchers Union. These skills were learned from his father. Jack attended schools in Vaughn and Simms High. Because of his meat cutting abilities, he earned many accolades for the Simms FFA chapter of which he was a part. He also lettered in football. He proudly served in the US Army as part of the 2nd Armored Division “Hell on Wheels” out of Fort Hood, TX. He fondly recalled gently bumping pecan trees with an Army tank, causing the pecans to fall to the ground. Aside from tank maneuvers, he was also a paratrooper and truck driver. He was a part of the Army Karlsruch Crusaders Football Team while serving in West Germany during the Berlin Crisis. Upon being honorably discharged from the Army, he was employed by the Great Falls Meat Co. However, trucking was his passion and he worked for several trucking firms. He soon became an owner/operator mainly hauling produce from California and Arizona to Calgary. He had a great fondness for Freightliners and powerful CAT engines and knew how to add power and speed. He was always more than willing to help another trucker on the road. Jack survived a near fatal trucking accident in 1981, but through the prayers of God’s people and God’s never-ending mercy he survived after spending a month in intensive care. He continued trucking which also gave him time to look at life differently while spending long hours on the road. Thus, began the long journey to know the Lord as his personal Savior. Upon retiring from trucking, he cut meat at Malmstrom AFB for several years, but his heart was still in trucking. He drove for United Materials for a number of years. He had a great love for his family. Later in life being a “grandpa” became a special and rewarding time in his life. He dearly loved his three granddaughters. Jack is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of 53 years; sons, Casey (Eve) and Colton (Karalee); and three precious granddaughters, Jacklyn, Abigail, and Scarlett. Also surviving are his sisters, Carol and Trudy; brothers, Robert “Butch” and Fred; and many nieces and nephews. Always remember, John 3:16. A celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 20, 2021, at 11:30 a.m. at Northwest Family Fellowship.
