John Mclean

John McLean, 94, of Miles City, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2013 after an extended illness. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 14, 2013 from 6 pm to 8 pm at O’Connor Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 15, 2013 at 2 p.m. at O’Connor Memorial Chapel with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery. O’Connor Funeral Home is handling arrangements. John was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1918 in Chinook. He lived in Chinook on his parents homestead until he was about six years old. His family then moved to Eastend in Canada where they farmed for several years. He was in his teens when his father passed away, and he moved with his mother to Havre. He joined the CCC and worked there until WWII began and he was drafted into the Army Air Force. He served overseas and was awarded the Bronze Star at the end of the war. He made the Air Force a career. When John retired from the Air Force he worked at the Wood Hobby Shop at Malmstrom AFB and at Sears maintenance for a few years before moving to Miles City. There he worked as a farmhand with his second wife, Ruby, for several years. John was always busy doing something and some of his proudest accomplishments were the several homes he built. He was especially proud of the one in Sand Coulee and another in Great Falls. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He shot a trophy white tail on one of his many hunting trips in Montana. He also loved to travel and could be classified as a world traveler. John is survived by his second wife, Ruby of the Philippines; daughters Agnes (Fred) Green of Black Eagle, Julie (William) Clark of New York, and Donna (Robert) Druessel of Illinois; sons James (Lorraine) McLean of Colorado, David McLean, Walter McLean, and Mike (Rose) McLean all of Glasgow, and Robert McLean of Fromberg; step-children Rolando Dumawa, Rachel (Derwin) Cabuenas, Rhodelia Dumawa, Leonilad (Arnan) Bayla, and Phillip (Helen) Dumawa all of the Philippines; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a very close nephew, Walter Hinebauch of Glendive and his children who have been supportive of him the past twenty-five years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia; son Leslie; one daughter-in-law; three grandchildren; his parents; one half-sister; and four half-brothers (Hinebauch).
