Kenneth David Asleson

Kenneth David Asleson, 81, of Monarch, passed away on November 16, 2023.

A celebration of life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at his ranch in Monarch.

He was born on October 1, 1942, in Moorhead, Minnesota to Orris and Dorothy Asleson. In 1960, he went to school at Bottineau, North Dakota to work on a degree in Forestry. He joined the US Coast Guard in 1963. After his service in the Coast Guard, he went back to school at the University of Montana in 1966 to continue his forestry degree. In 1968, he became the Fire Suppressant Coordinator for the Forest Service. A job he held until his retirement in 1981. Upon his retirement, he became the caretaker of the Strain Ranch in Monarch.

Kenneth married Sharon in 1968. Together they had three children, Cindy, Evan, and Kerri. They later divorced in 1983.

He loved being outdoors where he fished, hunted, and chopped firewood to name a few. He never thought of the ranch as his job. He loved working outside with the upkeep of the ranch and herding the cattle.

Kenneth is survived by his children, Kerri Asleson of Pell Lake, WI and Evan (Jordy) Asleson of Belt; sister, Linda Asleson of Spokane, WA; brother, David Asleson of Vergas, MN; and five grandchildren, Leah and Sammi Harkins, Kaiah Asleson, and Cash and Kenneth “Jr” Smith.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy Asleson-Smith of Monarch; and parents, Orris and Dorothy of Moorhead, MN.
