Klaus M. Ahmels, 78, of Neihart, passed away at Missouri River Manor after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Klaus was born September 13, 1939 in Weisstein, Germany. He came to the United States when he was 13 years old, and unable to speak a word of English. He graduated from high school with honors and then joined the U.S. Army. Klaus loved serving his country for four years. He then joined the Merchant Marines until he met the love of his life, Judy Hunter. They were married June 5, 1976 in Delray Beach Florida. They raised two beautiful girls. In 1988, they moved to Neihart which was quite an adjustment coming from Florida. He worked as a forest field technician for the U.S. Forest Service and Showdown Ski Area for more than 20 years. Klaus is survived by his wife, Judy Ahmels of Neihart; daughters Heidi McLaughlin of Great Falls and Heather Ahmels of Shelby; granddaughters Shyahna, Madison and Gracie; and grandson Gregory. Klaus was preceded in death by his mother, Mia Ahmels and father-in-law, Donald Hunter; and brother, Teddy. Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at O’Connor Memorial Chapel. Burial, with military honors, will follow at the Neihart Cemetery with a reception at the Cougar Canyon Bar & Grill in Monarch.
