d. November 23, 2016

Lawrence E. Hansen, 83, of Fairfield, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Peace Hospice. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Front Range Assisted Living in Fairfield. Cremation has been in the care of O’Connor Funeral Home. Lawrence was born in Bozeman to Milton and Jessie Hansen in 1933 and grew up in the Hamilton and Stevensville area. At age 16, he left his home to work with Great Northern Railroad in 1949. In 1951, he joined the U.S. Airforce and was honorably discharged in 1955. After returning to Montana he held a series of odd jobs including logging. He moved to Fairfield in 1972 and began working for the Ramaldus and Magdalen Hager family. He became part of the Hager family and continued to work with the ranch until his retirement in 1995 with Ramaldus and Magdalen. He continued to work with Mike and Teri Hager family until his passing. Lawrence was noted in the community for collecting aluminum cans from neighbors and friends. Mike would bring him in a stock trailer to recycle and he could tell the EXACT number of cans prior to the cans being machine counted. He was never wrong! He enjoyed playing cards and assembling puzzles and he had a special way with animals. You could always find his home surrounded by the animals that he loved and cared for. 50 or more cats were blessed with his care. Lawrence will be remembered as a loyal and honest man. He is survived by his brothers Jack and Wayne; and sisters Patty and Carol “Punky”. He was preceded in death by sisters Margaret, Donna, Sheila and Pat.
