Marguerite was born on May 6, 1925 in San Antonio, TX. She was the youngest of five daughters born to Sophie L Stork and Emil Sylvan. Her early childhood was spent in the states of Texas and Florida. Finally the family made their home in Columbia, SC where Marguerite completed her education. She met her husband the late John F. Boland while volunteering as a hostess for a U.S.O. dance at Fort Jackson just outside Columbia SC. They were married December 1, 1944. Marguerite was an active volunteer for many years at Holy Family Parish as well as in PTA at St. Thomas, Holy Family and Great Falls Central Catholic High Schools, which her ten children attended. Later she volunteered with the Columbus Hospital Auxiliary as a Pink Lady. She was a member of Holy Family Parish and several womens circles. Some of Marguerite’s earliest friendships revolved around a group of women who met for lunch and pinochle games on a monthly basis. She was always happy to lay aside her housework to join her children in a spontaneous game and was a master at pulling together a costume for a backyard theatrical production. She could find a way to make an old roller skate glide like new. Marguerites’ kitchen was always open to the neighborhood children, nephews and nieces, and on more than one occasion, fed the entire Central wrestling team and most of the football team. When school ended she looked forward to the family vacations to Lake Blaine, Seeley Lake, and all the national parks. More recently she accompanied her children on trips to Anchorage, Seattle, Fort Lauderdale, Key West, The Twin Cities, and Maui. Marguerite is survived by her children, John Boland of Missoula, Mary Jane Dubas (Jim) Kearney of Nebraska, Joe Boland of Missoula, Nancy (Steve) Boland Tabor of Tacoma, WA, Gerald (Robin) Boland of Great Falls, Dan Boland of Anchorage, AK, Susan Carnahan (Rick) of Great Falls, Cathy (Frank) Venzke of Spokane, WA, Marguerite L. “Meg” Boland of Great Falls; 24 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband, John; son James S.; infant daughter Mary; parents Sophie L. Stork Sylvan and Emil Sylvan; and sisters Dot, Snookie, Buster, and Bobbie.
