Marjorie (Peggy) Schwantes, 88, of Great Falls Montana, passed away at Peace Hospice on February 27, 2018. A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 5, at O’Connor Memorial Chapel. Peggy was born September 21, 1929, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Alphonso and Emma Gilman. In 1963, along with their 3 young sons, they moved to Neihart, Montana, where Peggy was the postmistress for 21 years. After retiring, Peggy and Alex moved to Canyon Ferry, and enjoyed fishing and spending time with their family and dogs. Peggy was a wonderful wife and mother, helping to care for Alex and then her son Ray through their illnesses until their deaths. For the last 5 years of her life, Peggy lived at Cascade Ridge, where she made many wonderful friends, enjoyed playing cards and morning coffee get-togethers. She was a fan of Atlanta Braves baseball and the Green Bay Packers. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband Alex, and son Ray. She is survived by sons Rod (Kristy) and Gene (Lori), daughter-in-law Lorena, 6 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. Peggy’s beautiful smile, loving and caring nature will be missed, as well as her fudge at Christmas. Special thanks to Peggy’s Hospice nurse, Stacy, and the staff at Peace Hospice for their kindness and exceptional care. Memorials in Peggy’s name may be made to Peace Hospice.
