Martha “June” Meier, 96, was called home to our Lord on Friday, January 12, 2018. June was born on June 13, 1921 in Montgomery County, Missouri to Grover Cleveland Callaway and Dora Tilden (Powell) Callaway. She attended Montgomery County schools, graduating in 1939. In 1950 she married Vernon W. Meier in Bozeman, MT. They made their way back to Missouri, where they settled for a time in Springfield where June worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone company. In 1956, Vern took a job as an electrician at the Mabel Telephone company in Great Falls, MT where they would make their home for over 50 years. In 1964 June accepted a position at the Montana State School for the Deaf and the Blind where she taught grade school retiring in 1983. June had an unwavering faith in God and was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church. She was a talented quilter and all around craftswoman. June loved to read, play cards (which she often won) and loved to sign and used this in everyday conversation. In her eyes, sign language was a beautiful art form. June is survived by her son-in-law Claudie Foard of Holbrook AZ, granddaughter Janella (Daniel) Barela of Mesa, AZ; grandson John Foard of Holbrook AZ, 5 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, plus numerous nieces and nephews. June was preceded in death by her husband Vernon W. Meier, daughter June Foard, daughter Majorie Maher, her parents, and seven siblings. Memorial services will be held Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 11:00 am at Peace Lutheran Church in Great Falls. The Foard/Barela family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to the Peace Lutheran Church or Montana School for the Deaf and Blind in lieu of flowers.
