Marvin E. Veen, 86, of Great Falls, died on Monday, June 23, 2014. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 2 pm at First Presbyterian Church. O’Connor Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Marvin was born on April 24, 1928 in Great Falls to Harry and Pearl Veen. He graduated from Great Falls High School in 1947 and then spent 2 years in a Joint Apprentice Training School and then Automotive Technical Schools with General Motors in Great Falls, Billings, Helena, Calgary, Portland and Salt Lake City. He served his apprenticeship with Rice Truck Lines and then worked as a mechanic with Rice Motors for 38 years. He also served as a truck mechanic for Cascade County Road Department for 8 years. Marvin married his high school sweetheart, Marva Claire Vincent, in April of 1948, and together they had three children. Marvin was a member of IAM for 44 years, coached church league youth basketball for 8 years, taught church school for 12 years and also served as an elder at First Presbyterian Church. He backpacked the Grand Canyon, Bob Marshall Wilderness and the Benchmark area. He also enjoyed fishing “God’s water,” the Missouri River for many years. Marvin is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marva; daughter Linn C. Veen of Dillon; sons Kenneth E. Veen and Hal M. (Janett) Veen, both of Great Falls; granddaughters Jessica Veen Welles, Amy Elicker Hankins, and Laura Suzanne Elicker; grandson Tyson Ryder; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a great bunch of family who called him “Uncle” and “Grandpa,” as well as his “group,” the Living Club.
