May Antoinette Landsverk

A lifetime of service, hard work, and caring for others is the legacy that May Landsverk, 91 years young, leaves behind. Thursday, June 27, 2013, May peacefully left this world, dying of natural causes at Peace Hospice in Great Falls, Montana. Born in Cohagen, MT. on Sept. 2, 1921, to William and Frances Fleming, she spent her school years in Cohagen, and then moved to attend Great Falls Commercial College where she met her husband, Harold. They were married in 1944 while he was in service in Alaska. May was employed in Great Falls as bookkeeper for Deaconess Hospital, Montana Concrete Pipe, and the School for the Deaf and Blind. May and Harold made their home in Great Falls and she became a bookkeeper for their private accounting business. May was a pioneer woman, living on a farm in barren, eastern Montana during the depression years of the 1930’s. From this hearty upbringing, May instilled in her family the values of faith and determination. Grit and stamina, hard work and a can-do attitude were her hallmarks. Her creativity knew no bounds. She excelled at many artistic endeavors. Sewing for her grandchildren, gardening, calligraphy, cooking, quilting, serving at her church, traveling, and professional cake decorating were among her many passions. A stained glass window tribute to her late husband, Harold, can be seen on the west side of First English Lutheran Church. She also was a member of the Sons of Norway, and the Soroptomist Club. She was preceded in death by her father, William; her mother, Frances; brother, William; husband Harold; and son, Larry. Survivors include her sister Ruthie (Gordon) Zook; daughters Karen (Doug) Landblom and Jan (Tom) MacIntyre; 9 grandchildren: Rochelle (Scott) Mundfrom, Jeffrey (Kaari) Landblom; Kelsey MacIntyre; Brett (Meghan) MacIntyre; James MacIntyre; Karry (Jerry) Ward; Kevin Landsverk ; Kyla (Jason) Townsend; Kenda Landsverk; and 6 great grandchildren. Visitation will be on Monday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at O’Connor Funeral Home. A memorial service will take place at First English Lutheran Church, Tuesday, July 2, at 2:30p.m. Private graveside service and burial will precede the memorial service at Highland Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by O’Connor Funeral Home Memorials, in lieu of flowers, are requested to First English Lutheran Church, Peace Hospice, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
