Michael C. Bogner was called home by Our Lord on the Feast of the Most Holy Name of Jesus, January 2, 2024. He was surrounded by his family and fortified by the last sacraments.
Michael was born on December 14, 1940, to Cornelius and Mary Bogner, the youngest of nine children. On June 16, 1971, he married Rita Skierka and they raised five children on the family farm east of Fort Benton. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, and an occasional hunt. At the end of the day, he would relax with a good book, mostly westerns, but he had a love for the story of St. Fernando III and would tell everyone about it.
His greatest legacy was his devotion to his traditional Catholic faith and his family. He demonstrated this by praying the rosary every night with his family and after moving to Great Falls in 2001, he was a fixture at daily mass. Even serving as Altar Boy when needed.
Michael is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rita; sons, Patrick (Nicole), Dominic, and James (Melissa); daughters, Michelle and Christina; grandchildren, Olivia, Alexander, Eliahs, Adriana, Elaina, and Audie; brothers, Paul (Frances) and Donald (Josie); sister, Mary Ann Kostelnik; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; three sisters; and one granddaughter.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Masses may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 2200 Smelter Ave NE, Black Eagle, MT 59414, for the repose of his soul.
A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 8, 2024, with a Requiem High Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, both at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Black Eagle followed by burial in Immaculate Heart Cemetery. The celebrant will be Rev. Father Martin Skierka assisted by Rev. Father Paul Baumberger.
