Michael "Mike" Shane O'Neill

On Friday, November 13, 2020, Michael Shane “Mike” O’Neill, 66, of Black Eagle, Montana, passed away due to complications of Covid-19 infection, and a long journey with Parkinson’s Disease. Mike was a resident at Benefis Eastview Skilled Nursing Facility at the time of his death. Mike was born in Lewistown, Montana to Patricia (Scally) and Wallace O’Neill. He attended St. Leo’s Catholic School until his junior year of high school, when the family moved to Great Falls. He graduated from C.M. Russell High School in 1972, where he excelled in football, basketball, and track as a true “Rustler.” He attended the College of Great Falls upon graduation. He married Laura Tramelli in 1974, and they had two children, Tiffany and Casey. Mike and Laura just celebrated their 46th Wedding Anniversary on November 9th of this year. Mike began his long-time sales career here in Great Falls and became a proud business owner of O’Neill Contract Furnishings, travelling throughout the states of Montana, Wyoming, Dakotas, and Idaho. There wasn’t a road, highway, or interstate in Montana that he hadn’t travelled. Mike’s favorite thing was being “Ganda” to his grandkids, Addison and Tate O’Neill. His home office often turned into a pet store, a veterinary office, or mini O’Neill Contract Furnishings which he gladly became the employee of. He became many different characters, including the “Beast,” when playing for hours with his beloved grandchildren. He was an avid reader and war history buff, watching any movie about wars, westerns, or sci-fi. Mike also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and listening to any genre of music, but his favorite pastime was spending time with his family and friends, laughing and telling stories. He was always up for a chat over a pint of Guinness and good meal. He is survived by his wife, Laura; daughter, Tiffany (Jamie) O’Neill Sivertsen; son, Casey (Rachel) O’Neill; and grandchildren, Addison and Tate. He is also survived by his siblings and their spouses, Marcie Dardis, Matthew O’Neill, David O’Neill, and Maureen O’Neill; and brother-in-law, Clyde Mindt. He was preceded in death by his parents, Patricia and Wally O’Neill; his infant big brother, John Stephen O’Neill; his in-laws, Marguerite and Elio Tramelli; sister-in-law, Michele Tramelli Mindt; and brother-in-law, Doug Tramelli. All services will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church (201 44th St. South, Great Falls). Vigil service will be held on Monday, November 23, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. and a funeral liturgy on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. Any memorial contributions may be made to McLaughlin Research Institute/Parkinson’s research (1520 23rd St. S, Great Falls, MT, 59405, 406-452-6208) or Holy Spirit Catholic School (2820 Central Ave, Great Falls, MT 59401, 406-761-5775). Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the family requests attendees adhere to mask wear, social-distancing, and socially distanced hugs and handshakes. The family plans to have a celebration of Mike’s life to tip a few back and toast in his honor when it is safe to gather in large groups.
