Norma Jean Lawrence, 92, of Great Falls passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at Peace Hospice. At her request, no services are planned. Norma was born and raised in Duluth, Minnesota. Her early years were spent alongside her father and brother, enjoying the outdoors either fishing, hunting, or cross-country skiing. It was during those years she developed a deep love and appreciation for nature and wildlife, and this quality is reflected in her paintings of landscapes, birds and animals. After several years of being moved around by the Air Force, Norma and her husband settled in Great Falls in the early 50’s. She was able to continue her love of the outdoors by spending any and all free time backpacking into wilderness areas with her husband. At the age of 55, Norma became interested in art. Primarily self-taught, she attended a wide variety of workshops with artists who taught their techniques. Norma is survived by a niece, a nephew, several good friends, and her kitty Lucy.
