astor Olaf G. Borge, 92, of Great Falls, a retired Lutheran pastor, died on Thursday, December 20, 2012 of natural causes at a local care facility. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 26, 2012 from 4 to 8 pm at O’Connor Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 11:00 am at Redeemer Lutheran Church following a graveside service at Highland Cemetery at 9:30 am. Olaf, son of Pastor Olaf and Sigrid Borge, was born February 29, 1920, in Lawrence, WA. He attended grade school in Rockdale, WI, then four years at the Gale College Academy at Galesville, WI. He graduated from Luther College at Decorah, IA with a B.A. degree in Greek. He graduated from Luther Seminary at St. Paul, MN with a Master of Divinity. He was ordained February 11, 1945, at First East Koshkonong Lutheran Church, Cambridge, WI. He served Lutheran congregations in: Sutton’s Bay and Northport, MI; three congregations in the Westby, MT area; Shelby and Valier. Then after one year of Clinical Pastoral Education at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL, he served as hospital chaplain for Lutheran Social Services of Montana at both hospitals in Great Falls. Olaf married Sara Elisabeth Dixen at Como Park Lutheran Church in St. Paul MN on September 24, 1944. Together they raised three sons: Kurt, Paul, and Michael. Sara died November 4, 1975. Olaf married Lillian Klemm in 1976. In addition to his years of Christian ministry, Olaf worked with Habitat for Humanity, as chaplain and Lieutenant Colonel for the Civil Air Patrol, and Alcoholics Anonymous. In retirement he was a volunteer visitation pastor for Our Redeemer Lutheran, and he taught English as a second language to many adults from other countries. Olaf is survived by his sister, Margarethe Larson of Menno, SD; sons Kurt Borge of Bozeman, Paul Borge of Victor, and Michael (Dorothy) Borge of Missoula; grandchildren Karl (Robyn) of La Crosse, WI and Sarah (Cristian) of Missoula; and great-grandchildren Kolter and Kaitlyn Borge. Memorials may be made to Flathead Lutheran Bible Camp, 603 Main ST, Kalispell, MT 59901 or Redeemer Lutheran Church, 332 Riverview 3W, Great Falls, MT 59404.
