Dr. Paul Renz, 89, passed away on September 5, 2017 after a long illness.His wife Linda was at his side during his peaceful transition. At his request no services are planned. Paul was born to Paul and Augusta Renz on October 2, 1927 in Englewood, New Jersey.As an infant his family moved to the Panama Canal Zone where his father worked as an engineer. Paul spent his childhood years there, graduating from High School at the age of 15.He wanted to join the Merchant Marines with his parents signing for him.After serving his two years with them, he enlisted in the United States Army.Once discharged, he decided to pursue his education in the states on the GI Bill. He got his undergraduate and graduate degree at Syracuse University.He played basketball and was on their swim team during his time there.He received his doctorate degree at the University of Maryland.He taught in several colleges and Universities prior to coming to Great Falls, Montana with his professorship at the College of Great Falls where he was the Director of Special Education. He met his wife Linda on campus and they were married on February 9, 1977.After fifteen years at College of Great Falls, he decided to retire and pursue his many hobbies. He and his wife bought property at Seeley Lake and built a cabin together.They spent 34 years during the summers until the last three years.Paul loved to read, music, pets, wood working, gardening, travel, pottery, sports and learning.He was still an avid reader until a few days before he passed. Paul is survived by his wife Linda; sons Paul and Nicholas; daughter Victoria; several grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces and a nephew. Paul was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Carla. Anyone wishing to donate in his name, his preferences would be the Animal Shelter or the Alzheimer’s Association.
