Paul Stubbs

Paul Leroy Stubbs, 74, of Great Falls, passed away March 14, 2014 at his home with his family by his side. A memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 2 pm at First Alliance Church, with Pastor John Reese officiating. O’Connor Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Paul was born August 27, 1939 in Roundup, MT to Homer and Leona Stubbs. He grew up in Great Falls, one of five children. He attended Emerson Elementary, Paris Gibson Junior High and graduated from Great Falls High School in 1957. He was a true Bison supporter. While at GFH, he met his high school sweetheart Lynne Anderson, and the two were united in marriage on August 1, 1959 at Holy Family Church. They celebrated their 54th anniversary last summer. They have four children, 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. For 30 years, Paul worked for the Grounds Department for the Great Falls School District No. 1. Several of those years he was a foreman. One of the special projects he did was taking care of the Great Falls High School Football Stadium. During those years, he would have the Woodcraft and Art Department make a stencil for the middle of the field for the Bison games, and also for CMR during the cross-town games. He kept the field in pristine condition. When he decided to retire, he felt badly about leaving the football field maintenance to others. Paul completed his military obligation in the Montana Air National Guard. After he retired from the School District, Paul and his sons started a painting business and restoration of many older homes on the city’s lower north side, including the Sarah Bed & Breakfast at 626 4th Avenue North. Paul and Lynne operated the Bed and Breakfast facility for several years. They met and served many wonderful people from all over the world at that time. Paul was active in Little League baseball, coaching his sons and grandsons, as well as serving as groundskeeper for the Little League American Baseball Fields. While he was coaching Upperside Senior Little League, they won the State “Senior Championship,” and went on to the District in Salem, OR. He was on many boards, including Youth Hockey, Upper Southside Baseball Little League, and American Legion Baseball. Being very involved in having Bible Study in his home, Paul also taught Sunday school classes and worked on the church grounds. Throughout the years, the Stubbs have enjoyed attending sporting and extracurricular activities of their sons and grandchildren, and spending time in the mountains with friends and family. Paul is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lynne; children Todd (Kim) Stubbs, of Manhattan, Greg (Michelle) Stubbs and Philip (Heidi) Stubbs of Great Falls, and Mark (Heather) Stubbs of Raymond, NH; grandchildren Levi, Megan, Bronson, Andre, Roman, and Sarah Stubbs, Landon (Tammy) Stubbs, Libby ( Thai) Kim, Mani (Jessica) Stubbs, Bailey, Carrisa, Wyett Brainard, Anna Briggs; great-grandchildren Kylie, Conley, and Kinley Stubbs; brothers Robert (Judy) Stubbs, Norman (Suzie) Stubbs, and Harold Stubbs; and many nieces and nephews. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Leona Stubbs and Marjory (Bill) Ghrist. The family would like to thank Dr. Chrzanowski, his nurse Carrie, the nurses at HOPE and HOSPICE, and especially all the friends and family who prayed for Paul this last year. He will surely be missed for his lengthy stories and wonderful sense of humor, and most of all his love for the Lord Jesus Christ.
