Richard H. “Dick” Converse passed into his heavenly home suddenly early Sunday evening, October 3, 2021, of pneumonia which led to cardiac arrest. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 11, 2021, at O’Connor Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at O’Connor Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at the Augusta Cemetery. Dick was born on November 23, 1937, in Great Falls and raised on a fifth-generation cattle ranch west of Augusta still in operation today. He was proud of his grandparents, Dick and Carrie Bean who Bean Lake was named for in 1881. He enjoyed riding for cattle and had plenty of opportunity for shooting sports. He always enjoyed fishing regardless of whether it was on the ranch or in later years in Hawaii and Alaska. When one of his fishing guides asked him how he learned to fish so well, his best one-liner was, “Oh! I just watch Kurt Gowdy on TV.” In 1970, he established his own accounting practice and handled many unusual problems. He served a vast clientele for over 50 years and was recognized as an expert in tax matters. He was actively practicing at the time of his death. His passion was always when Jesus might rapture his believers, and he hoped to be alive for that special gathering of the saints. One of his greatest contributions was serving as a missionary and teacher in Eastern Europe in the 1990s. We believe he was met in Heaven by Jesus with these words, “Well done my good and faithful servant.” Richard and his wife, Mary were married in 1957, and enjoyed almost 64 years together. He is also survived by his brother, Dale (Sharon) of Northville, MI; four children, Robert (Stephanie), Bill (fiancé, Josie), Dave (Annette), and Susan (Russ Simmons); 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Don Converse of Augusta. He was an active member of the Stockett Community Bible Chapel in Stockett, the CM Russell Museum, and was a devoted collector of western art. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Great Falls Rescue Mission.
