Robert Hill

April 24, 1929 — December 12, 2013

Great Falls —Robert Bob Eugene Hill, 84 of Great Falls, a United States Navy veteran, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013 at his residence. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. OConnor Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Robert was born April 24, 1929 in Glasgow to Edgar and Gertrude (Dorr) Hill. He graduated from Nashua High School in 1947. He was employed with the United States Corps of Engineers at Fort Peck until his enlistment into the Navy. He enlisted at the start of the Korean War in 1950 and served in an air squadron until he was honorably discharged in 1954. After discharge, he went into the roofing construction business in Denver, CO. Upon returning to Montana, he met and married the love of his life, Mavis Lingle. They made Great Falls their home and he continued in the roofing business. He was the school district roofer from 1967 until his retirement in 1991. Robert was a long time member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and a firm believer in the Lord God. He lived and loved conservatively. These firm beliefs in the Lord also lead to an extreme passion for the Lords creations, the Montana outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, ice fishing, snowmobiling, and camping out with friends and family. Some of his grandchildrens fondest memories were of ice fishing on the lake and family get-togethers with him. He was one of the organizers and charter members of the Search and Rescue in 1961, a lifetime member of the VFW, and a member of the Eagles. Robert is survived by his loving wife, Mavis Hill of Great Falls; daughters Kathy Coleman of Minden, NV, Connie Gustafson of Great Falls, Colleen (Gary) Service of Great Falls, and Carla (Robb) Fellows of Minden, NV; step-daughters Paula (Keith) Johnson of Great Falls, Derinda (Ernie) Carlson of Circle; brother Warren (Laurayne) Hill of Great Falls; sisters Bernyce Steinmetzer of Olga, WA, Lorene Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO; 17 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and all the many day-care children throughout the years who extended his family. We will always love and miss you. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Mary Sinness, Gerene Knutson, Loretta Edwards, and Ruth McQuiston; brothers Calvin Hill, Jerome Hill and Wallace Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
