Ronald Gary “Pete” Garrick was born in Redstone on May 31, 1933 to Lyle “Shavy” and Anne (Wunderlich) Garrick. He spent his childhood playing baseball with his brothers, caring for the family’s garden, and helping his dad at Outlook School. After graduation he served in the U.S. Army (1954-1956) before working road construction in Yellowstone National Park and Last Chance Gulch in downtown Helena. During the off-season he helped his folks with gardening and boiler maintenance and janitorial work at the school. In 1970 he joined Civil Service and worked in the heating plants at the Opheim Radar Site and Malmstrom AFB until his retirement in 1994.The next 16 years he volunteered at Holy Spirit School, which his son attended, and did custodial and maintenance work at the school and at the Foot and Ankle Clinic. On Dec 28, 1974, Pete married Karen Timberman with whom he had one son, David, in Billings, Montana. With his wife, he continued to plant and harvest gardens.A music lover, he played guitar and sang. His favorite musicians included Hank Williams, Sr., Jimmie Rodgers, Chet Atkins, and the Statler Brothers. Pete loved being around others and was always “shooting the breeze” with someone wherever he went. Games of Smear and Pinochle filled many evenings with family and friends. He also became a voracious reader, especially in the field of naturopathic issues. He passed away on September 2, 2018. Pete is survived by his wife Karen; son David (Sayaka); brothers Gordon, Galen (Fengxia), Clayton (Chris), Clair (Fern); sisters Lorraine Hale and Carol (Don) Gallagher; sisters-in-law Donna, Betty, and Aileen; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Glenn, Dwaine, Dennis, Owen, Bobby, and Curt; brother-in-law Kermit Hale; and sister-in-law Frances (Gordon).
