Ruben Roman Portugal, 96, of Great Falls, Montana, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2025.

Ruben was born on July 6, 1928, in Superior, Arizona to Ansurio and Beatrice (Danniels) Portugal. He grew up and attended schools in Arizona and enlisted in the United States Army, during which time he earned and was awarded the distinguished Purple Heart for his service in the Korean War conflict. Upon completing 20 years of service with the United States Army, he worked for the United States Postal Service for nearly 9 years and moved shortly thereafter to Great Falls, Montana in 1998 to be with his family.

Ruben met Irmgard Hartmann while he was stationed in Germany. They were married in 1950 in Heidelberg, Germany. They were married for over 37 years until Irmgard passed away in 1988.

Ruben is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Linda (Portugal) Gimenez and Edwin Gimenez, of Great Falls, Montana; son and daughter-in-law, Reuben R.C. Portugal and Brenda Portugal, of Laramie, Wyoming; three grandchildren, Isleen Gimenez, Megan Gimenez Kottke and her husband, Brent Kottke, and Paul Matthew Portugal; and four great grandchildren, Nolan Gimenez Wilson, Joscelyn Gimenez Wilson, Cameron Gimenez Fisher, and Loren Gimenez Wilson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ansurio and Beatrice (Danniels) Portugal; brother, J.A. Portugal of Pico Rivera, California; sister and brother, Francis Vasquez and Ray Portugal, both of Phoenix, Arizona.
