Scott was born April 25, 1956, to Joe and Dai Lukkason in Great Falls. He cherished the freedom he experienced growing up in Three Forks where he could sled in the hills, swim in the “pits,” and ride the family motorcycle. He and his friends spent hours building the track and racing HO-scale cars in the funeral home. Throughout high school he worked as a cook at the local A&W and had more fun with co-workers than there is time to tell. He graduated from Three Forks High School in 1974 and then attended MSU for two years of preparation courses before graduating from San Francisco College of Mortuary Science in 1977. On June 17,1978, Scott married Shirley Todd of Willow Creek. He always said it was the second most important decision of his life. The first was his decision to follow Jesus Christ. Scott and Shirley lived in Three Forks, and he worked at K&L Mortuaries. Scott continued his dad’s legacy of being the “L” of K&L. He began to feel the call of God to pursue full-time ministry. In June of 1980, Scott and Shirley moved to Bozeman where he completed his bachelor’s degree in English, graduating in 1982. During that time, he also completed a ministry training program through the Bozeman Church of Christ. After completing both programs, he worked as a campus minister for the Bozeman Church of Christ. They later moved to Minneapolis where Chad was born in 1985, and Scott worked as a minister for the Minneapolis Church of Christ. The family returned to Montana in 1986. Scott worked as a funeral director in Billings, and Todd was born there in 1988. They moved to Great Falls in 1990, and he worked for O’Connor Funeral Home for 20 years, serving as the manager for the last 13 years. He finished his career as a funeral director in Ellensburg, WA. After retiring from funeral service in 2015, Scott served as a minister and elder for the Great Falls Church of Christ until his death.
Scott was a faithful and devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He was a passionate disciple of Jesus, loved to study the Bible, and dedicated his life to helping others grow closer to the Lord. He was known for his optimism, joyful smile, compassion, and service to others. Scott was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, cross-country ski, run, hike, backpack and ride his bike. Scott learned the game of soccer when Chad began to play and coached many of his sons’ teams through junior high. He was an ultimate “Soccer Dad” and enjoyed watching the boys play, especially in high school. He and Shirley loved to cheer on all of the Great Falls schools’ sports teams. He wanted his sons to join Cub Scouts as he had in his elementary years. When his sons became Boy Scouts in Troop 1, he enjoyed camping and backpacking with them. Scott supported Chad and Todd as they attained the rank of Eagle Scout. In 2007, he began a goal of cycling 1,000 miles a year, and he and his bike were partners to the end of his life. He was known in the Devonshire Townhouse community as the guy who was in the outdoor pool every day in the summer. Scott was a life-long reader and learner. This is evidenced by his piles of books scattered throughout the house. His “Man Cave” had two desks, three bookshelves full of books, magazines, and notebooks with information he had read and gathered. The “Man Cave” also housed a reloading table, exercise equipment and many antlers from his hunting expeditions.
Scott was very conscious of his health. Sugar was a “no-no” for him unless it was dark chocolate. He ate one piece a day. He loved to share it and often passed it around to other family members after dinner. Salad every day for lunch was his preference. As a family, we will never forget his love of popcorn. His extended family always appreciated his foot rubbing skills.
Scott is survived by his wife, Shirley of Great Falls; sons, Chad (Sara) and granddaughters, Hannah and Heidi of Bozeman, and Todd (Amanda) and grandchildren, Gage, Levi, Silas, Amira, and Amaya of Renton, WA; brother, Ross (Sue) of Great Falls; sisters-in-law, Paulette (Paul) Love of Ferndale, WA, Beverly (Kraig) Saltness of Three Forks and Jackie Todd of Butte; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Tom and Jessie Todd; sister, Leona; and brother-in-law, Gary Todd.
Memorials are suggested to the Great Falls Church of Christ, 1300 6th St. NW, Great Falls, MT 59404.
