Talbot Corder

Talbot Corder, 91, of Great Falls, died Thursday, Nov. 1, from natural causes.Private family services will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place under the direction of OConnor Funeral Home. Tal was born Aug. 5, 1921 in Castle Rock, Colo. to Carl and Mamie Corder. As a young boy he moved to Great Falls with his family. In 1941, while working at a CCC camp near Neihart, he met Wilma Heydt. Tal and Wilma were married in Great Falls on June 20, 1942 and have enjoyed more than 70 years of marriage. Tal entered the Army in 1942. He served 39 months during World War II in the United States Army Signal Corps in the Pentagon and as a radio operator aboard troop transport ships in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of operation. He was honorably discharged from the Army as a staff sergeant in 1945. After the war, Tal attended radio school in Kansas City, but soon returned to Montana and operated the family farm northeast of Geraldine. He farmed from 1948 until his retirement in 1983. In 1965 Tal built the family a home in Fort Benton and he lived in Fort Benton until moving to Great Falls in 2007. While living in Fort Benton, Tal was a long-time member of the First Christian Church and served as a deacon, elder and trustee of the church. Tal enjoyed woodworking and was a talented craftsman. He is survived by his wife Wilma of Great Falls; four sons David (Betty) of Odessa, Mo., Roger (Toni) of Geraldine, Floyd (Lois) of Great Falls and Tyler (Marsha) of Henderson, Nev.; brother John of Troy, Ill. and sister Carol Peck of Mesa, Ariz. six grandchildren: Karl, Trampus, Paul, Benton, Jason and Ashley Corder and 10 great-grandchildren.
