Teresa Ann (Johns) Atteberry, aged 64, passed away Monday, December 12, 2022, in the comfort of her home after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by her eldest daughter and two grandchildren.
Teresa was born in Auburn, New York on June 6, 1958, to her late parents, James and Angela (Leonello) Johns. Throughout her childhood, Teresa’s father worked for the United States Air Force, which afforded Teresa the opportunity to live in England, Iceland, and various places throughout the United States. During her teenage years, Teresa’s father received orders to move the family to Great Falls.
In 1978, she met and married her first husband, Gary Lee Pye of Great Falls. Together, they gave birth and raised two daughters. Teresa was very committed when it came to working outside the home. In 1980, two weeks after the birth of her second daughter, Teresa went to work for Coast-to-Coast Hardware where she began a long-lasting career assisting customers with home improvement projects. After 17 years of marriage, Teresa divorced and moved to Billings where she received a job at Eagle Hardware, which then transitioned to Lowe’s Home Improvement. Eventually, Teresa remarried Thomas Atteberry of Northern California. Throughout her years of commitment, Teresa worked her way up through the ranks to become the only female Assistant Store Manager at Lowe’s. After her second divorce, Teresa moved back to Great Falls where she spent her remaining years working at Home Depot.
Teresa was an exceptionally talented seamstress and sewed most of her daughter’s holiday outfits, prom dresses, and even wedding dresses in addition to arranging wedding decorations by hand. When she was not assisting customers with home improvement projects, she enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren, spending time with her pets, gardening, and working on her own home improvement projects. Teresa was a very devoted and loving sister, daughter, mother, grandmother, friend, and she will be forever missed.
Teresa is survived by her two daughters, Dawn Hunter and Jessica Wittenberg (Derek); three grandchildren, Madison Hunter, Kelton Hunter, and Violet Wittenberg; and brother Stephan A. Johns (Ruth). She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, David “Little Dave” Johns, Jim Johns (of New Mexico), and her first husband Gary Pye.
