Ted Lohman passed peacefully in his home surrounded by family on May 20, 2018 at the age of 94. He was born in Wray, Colorado November 23, 1923 to Frederick and Inez Lohman. As a young farm boy, his early schooling began in a one room country school in Wray. The family moved several times as Ted’s dad successfully secured work during the depression years, and in the late 1930s the family returned to farming in northeastern Colorado. That is where Ted met his forever soulmate, Dorothy Jean Hargreaves. The two were married June 10, 1942 in Holyoke, Colorado and would have celebrated their 76th anniversary this June. During the war years, though refused for military service due to arthritis in his spine, Ted served as a civilian mechanic rebuilding aircraft engines at McClelland Air Base in Sacramento, Ca. Following that, he returned to farming in Colorado for a short time before pursuing his lifelong career as a Certified Master Watchmaker. Ted was a 3rd generation watchmaker, having learned his craft from his father and grandfather. In the late 1940s, Ted and Dorothy moved their young family to Olympia, Washington where Ted worked for Talcott Brothers Jewelers for the next 21 years. In 1968, Ted and Dorothy moved to Billings, Montana where Ted performed jewelry and watch repair for Montague Jewelers and a number of other regional stores. In 1975, Ted fulfilled his dream of owning and operating his own retail jewelry store when he and Dorothy settled in Cody, Wyoming and opened “It’s About Time” Fine Jewelry. They remained in Cody for 31 years. In 2007, the Lohmans moved to Great Falls to be closer to family. Ted was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and loved sharing stories of successful hunts. He was also a dedicated family man with an engaging smile and a great sense of humor. Ted is survived by his wife of nearly 76 years, Dorothy J. Lohman, Great Falls; son Ronald L. (Sharon) Lohman of Olympia, Washington; daughter Jacqueline D. Lohman of Great Falls; 2 grandchildren, Kelly (Jim) Ecklund of Morton, Washington and Erin (Kiley) Lohman of Elma, Washington; and 6 great-grandchildren. Ted was preceded in death by parents Frederick and Inez Lohman; brothers Lawrence Lohman, Robert Lohman, and Howard Lohman; and sister Phyllis Wilson. The Lohman family would like to thank the doctors and staff of the Great Falls Clinic, notably Dr. Karl Guter and Dr. Carey Welsh, for their years of dedicated care; staff of Spectrum Home Health; Benefis Home Hospice, and the management and staff of Beehive Homes of Great Falls for their loving support. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to a favorite charity. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 8, 11:00 am at Harvest Springs Community Church.
