Elizabeth Jane “Betty” Soto, 72 of Great Falls, MT, loving wife, mother and grandmother, went to be with the Lord, dying peacefully, on August 19, 2017 at Benefis Peace Hospice. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at 1 pm at O’Connor Memorial Chapel. Arrangements are in the care of O’Connor Funeral Home. Known as Betty Soto most of her life, she was born Elizabeth Jane Younger to Elizabeth and Robert J. Younger on June 27, 1945 in Baltimore, Maryland. She was raised in the mountains of Frederick, Maryland with her brother Robert and sister Leona. She met and married the love of her life, Oscar Soto, Jr. in 1972. Together with Oscar, she created a blended family of seven, all the while following Oscar around the world as a dedicated military wife. After Oscar retired from the Air Force and became a civil servant, she followed him one last time, moving to Great Falls, MT in 1989. Betty worked in Great Falls City Court for many years where she was known by her co-workers and friends as Liz. She was loved by all who knew her there: coworkers, police, judges and customers. She was an avid gardener of both flowers and vegetables. Everyone who walked into her home was treated like family. She loved nothing more than to feed them fresh tomatoes from her garden and stroll with them through her flowers. She also loved being in the mountains and going fishing with her loving husband of 45 years. She never knew a stranger. She was always there to lend a hand or give comfort to those who needed it. She was a fierce fighter, surviving cancer twice before succumbing to lung cancer. She was a light in the life of so many. Betty is survived by her loving husband Oscar; sister Leona Huidekoper and husband Dan of Choteau, MT; sons: Jeff Soto and wife Wendy of Hope Mills, NC, Thomas Soto and wife Yvette of Great Falls, MT and Michael Soto and wife Eve of Raleigh, NC; daughters: Gail Berube and husband John of Deerfield, NH and Andrea Herring of Goldsboro, NC.; grandchildren: Jessica Morris and husband Matt, Derek Soto, CJ Berube and wife Shana, Ryan Berube, Rebekah Berube, Tyler Herring, Jesse Soto, Colton Soto, Jackson Soto, and Nate Soto; great-grandchildren: Laila Soto, Ethan Morris, Jackson Berube, Caroline Morris, and Lyla Jane Berube; and numerous Soto in-laws, nieces, nephews, Air Force family and friends in Great Falls and all over the U.S. She was preceded in death by her parents Elizabeth and Robert J. Younger; and brother Robert G. Younger. In memory of Betty, please send flowers to O’Connor Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to Benefis Peace Hospice, Great Falls Animal Shelter, or Sletten Cancer Institute Foundation.
