Tell Christian Steinbach

November 11, 1973 — October 8, 2021

Tell Christian Steinbach of Wolf Creek, passed away peacefully after a fight with health issues on October 8, 2021. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 14, 2021, at Black Eagle Community Center, 2322 Smelter Ave, Black Eagle, MT. Bloom and Bean Flower Shop, 406-453-0866, is handling floral arrangements. Tell was born on November 11, 1973, in Helena to Marvin “Buz” and Verna (Brown) Steinbach. Tell attended Augusta High School and graduated in 1992. He’s remembered for his love of football and team roping. He competed for many years in the National High School Rodeo Finals. Upon graduation, he received a full-ride scholarship to Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, OR for rodeo. His pursuit of that passion led him to transfer to Southwestern Oklahoma State University. While there Tell helped lead the Bulldogs to a 1994 Rodeo National Championship. On Tell’s return from Oklahoma he acquired his beloved dog, Quirt, a short haired border collie. Quirt was best known for her quick wittedness, obedience, and loyalty. Although Tell had many horses over the years, Turtle and Rastus were cherished. Both were ridden at various times, as Tell partnered in Team Roping to compete in the Montana Pro Rodeo Circuit Finals and NRA Finals over many years. It was life’s simplest pleasures that brought great joy to Tell. An annual trip to the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) in Las Vegas with his dad was a highlight for them both. They’d map out their route, stopping at as many historical sites as possible during the long drive. Tell’s greatest love, Team Roping, was shared with his brothers, Shawn and Ty. He eventually joined the local golf league with brother, Scott, where they brought up the tail end of tournaments. Some of his most valued memories were spent with his childhood friend, Frank Thompson, team roping with Chad Johnson and Brant Davis, and fishing the ocean with Terry Hatcher. His caring spirit and generous heart could be felt by anyone he came in contact with. He had a special gift of not only seeing the good in people but bringing out the best in them as well. He leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his family and friends who were always entertained by his many stories and sense of humor. He truly brought life to a party. Tell’s life would seem too short for many, but those of us who were blessed to be touched by him understood his existence, and the imprint he left on our hearts exceeds the quantity of time we had with him. Tell is survived by his parents, Verna and Buz Steinbach; brothers, Shawn (Karmon), Ty, and Scott; nephews, Trevor (Ashley) and Miles; nieces, Skylar, Sydne, Allie, and Avery; and great-nieces, Hadley and Vivianne. Contributions in memory of Tell can be made to the Dearborn Community (Linda Ingersoll 6062 MT HWY 200 Wolf Creek MT 59648) and the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund.
